T-VIPS DVB-T2 Gateway Simplifies Migration to DVB-T2

OSLO, Norway — T-VIPS, a global leader in professional video contribution and distribution, creating award-winning solutions that make the transport of high quality broadcast video easier and more cost-effective, today announces the IBC launch of the T-VIPS DVB-T2 Gateway. This product fills an important gap in the DVB-T2 solutions set, integrating with existing DVB-T headends and DVB-T2 modulators to enable terrestrial operators to take advantage of the 30-50% increase in bandwidth efficiency enabled by migration to DVB-T2.
The DVB-T2 Gateway, the latest member of T-VIPS’ award winning cProcessor product range, is the only hardware solution required to convert a DVB-T headend for full DVB-T2 compliance. Situated in the headend after the multiplexer, the T-VIPS DVB-T2 Gateway protects an operators’ investment in existing DVB-T infrastructure and allows broadcasters to take advantage of the increased bandwidth offered by DVB-T2 to launch new services such as HD and VOD. This solution also enables an operator to choose to have DVB-T and DVB-T2 services co-exist side-by-side in a network, an option likely to be very attractive for a number of operators.
“The need to launch HD terrestrial services is accelerating the move to both DVB-T2 and MPEG-4 for terrestrial operators. This product makes that move as simple and as cost-effective as possible, by converting existing terrestrial headends for DVB-T2 operation,” says Johnny Dolvik, CEO, T-VIPS. “This is the first product on the market that can cost-effectively take an existing head-end and make it fully DVB-T2 compliant. This makes such economic sense for terrestrial operators moving to DVB-T2 that I’m sure it’s going to be a very popular solution at IBC 2009.”
T-VIPS CP560 DVB-T2 Gateway
This solution provides a central point of control for DVB-T2 networks, enabling the operator to take advantage of the more efficient spectrum utilization promised by next-generation terrestrial broadcasting. It will play a critical role in ensuring that existing terrestrial networks can cost-effectively migrate to DVB-T2 operation.
The CP560 utilises the advanced processing capabilities of the cProcessor family, by re-arranging the transport stream into the DVB-T2 Modulator Interface. The DVB-T2 Modulator Interface also controls the modulator parameters and provides the very accurate timing needed in an SFN network.
The CP560 is part of T-VIPS’ cProcessor product family, a line of compact and powerful, yet cost-effective, products designed for advanced processing and handling of MPEG transport streams.
The CP560 provides flexible interfacing with ASI or IP inputs, and DVB-T2 MI outputs over ASI and IP.
