Cost-Effective, Robust VCAS Solutions Extended from IPTV to Hybrid, Cable and Mobile Networks

WHAT: Technology Demonstrations:

VCAS Makes Cable IPTV a Reality

Verimatrix will be launching its latest content security solution, VCAS™ for Cable IPTV, developed in conjunction with innovative, experienced hardware suppliers to the cable industry. Cable IPTV offers cable operators a rapid response to ever increasing demands for HD and on-demand services, while dramatically reducing the cost of advanced set-top box (STB) deployment. IP technologies are recognized as the key solution for reclaiming bandwidth and broadening service offerings on limited capacity cable plants. VCAS for Cable IPTV provides a secure, cost-effective solution to deliver these next generation video services – now.

VCAS for Cable IPTV leverages an innovative “CMTS Bypass” solution, which converts an existing cable system to an asymmetric IP network perfectly suited for IPTV services. The Verimatrix VCAS software-based content protection approach, integrated with advanced IP STB and PC client devices, provides a superior security solution. Another major benefit is that VCAS for Cable IPTV fulfills the U.S. FCC’s separable security mandate. The solution works both with the U.S. DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS standards.

Verimatrix – Protecting Three Screens

Building on its software-based content security foundation for PC and STB clients, Verimatrix will be demonstrating an extension of its architecture to address the new frontiers of mobile TV. Mobile TV is a natural progression for the pay-TV world to provide seamless in-home networking, 3G streaming media delivery and standards-based DVB-H solutions. Using a unified content security and subscriber authentication approach, operators can now construct highly competitive, multi-network and multi-screen service offerings.

The mobile TV architecture will be deployable with partners from across the spectrum of mobile entertainment and information delivery, providing a best-of-breed approach to address the business challenges of mobile service implementation. The Verimatrix mobile TV solution will support established DVB and other mobile TV standards providing seamless integration with head-end equipment from major vendors and compatibility with handset security subsystems. The software-based approach will especially appeal to new classes of pay-TV service operators that wish to avoid complex and expensive integration with proprietary hardware architectures.

VCAS Defines Content Security for Hybrid Networks

VCAS™ for DVB, the Verimatrix software-based content security approach for hybrid networks, addresses the operational challenges of innovative configurations of DVB broadcast over satellite, cable or terrestrial with premium IPTV on-demand services enabled by broadband. Verimatrix will be demonstrating its solution for unified content security on hybrid network architectures using a combination of MultiCAS/DVB support, which uses standardized DVB Simulcrypt, for broadcast channels and sophisticated Video-on-Demand (VOD) service and key management over the broadband network.

VCAS for DVB enables operators to add compelling on-demand services, improve overall content security and lower per client costs without disrupting their existing subscriber base. VCAS for DVB also provides a natural migration path from piracy-prone smart card-based systems to flexible, renewable software-based content security while enhancing the potential for value-added business approaches.

WHY: The Verimatrix roadmap for multi-network solutions and diversified client support is developed through continuous analysis of current and future system security challenges. The goal is to help customers anticipate and respond to an evolving world of pay-TV opportunities. Based on the company’s mission to reinforce and extend the security perimeter of digital video systems, Verimatrix’s vision encompasses securing “three screens” solutions – TV, PC and mobile devices – and a broadening range of content delivery systems. From the camera to the couch, the VCAS suite of products ensures the best access to premium content and revenue enhancement opportunities.
