Integrations with Entone, Orca, Verimatrix and Western Mediabridge to Advance IP Video Convergence and Open Standards

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:BBND), a leader in digital video networking, today announced it has expanded its set of IP video partners to advance convergence and open standards-based delivery. The company’s IP solution, which includes vIP Pass™ and CVEx™ Converged Video Exchange, has been integrated with a number of additional IP video products to provide an end-to-end IP video solution. The combined solution includes an IP media hub from Entone Inc., network-based program guides from Orca Interactive, digital TV security systems from Verimatrix and IPTV solutions from Western Mediabridge Inc. that will help streamline and secure IP video delivery across networks and consumer devices.

“Siloed approaches are not an effective means of incorporating IP video services. By integrating with leading technology companies in the IP video ecosystem, we can leverage existing network capacity, tools, DRM and IPTV customer premise equipment and help foster open standards in architecting a single approach to video delivery.”
Previously, BigBand announced its IP video delivery product suite had been integrated with several DOCSIS® 3.0 cable modems and gateway technologies, including Hitron Technologies, Mplus Technology Co. and NETGEAR along with DOCSIS 3.0 chipset integrations with Texas Instruments and other major chipset manufacturers.

“A converged video approach is about delivering cost-effective and high quality video streams to IP-enabled devices without the need for redundant infrastructure and systems,” said Paul Crann, Vice President, Product Line Management, BigBand Networks. “Siloed approaches are not an effective means of incorporating IP video services. By integrating with leading technology companies in the IP video ecosystem, we can leverage existing network capacity, tools, DRM and IPTV customer premise equipment and help foster open standards in architecting a single approach to video delivery.”

BigBand’s IP video delivery solution helps operators advance video convergence strategies by using an open standards-based approach and includes the company’s vIP PASS and CVEx products. BigBand’s vIP PASS solution enables IP video delivery to multiple devices using existing infrastructure while saving valuable CMTS bandwidth for voice and data by “wrapping” video in DOCSIS®. vIP PASS is further enhanced by CVEx, a software-based video control plane that provides convergence between different video applications, RF and IP transports, and end-user screens.
