OBERHAUSEN, Germany — ACCESS CO., LTD (TV Connect stand 93), a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile, beyond-PC and digital TV markets, and Anvia, a Finnish provider of IT and communications services to consumers, businesses, as well as operators, today announced that Anvia has selected ACCESS’ NetFront™ Browser NX 3.0 and NetFront™ Living Connect to power its new line of High Definition Hybrid Set-Top-Boxes. The integration provides Anvia’s customers with a market-ready solution to record and stream content to connected devices as well as offer VoD, catchup and OTT content through a single portal supporting HbbTV.

Anvia’s TV services rely on STMicroelectronics’ next generation chip “Liège”, which supports a full multimedia ecosystem including PVR recording and media sharing to unmanaged devices. The integration of ACCESS’ solutions with the STMicroelectronics chip in the Anvia TV’s new set-top box enable operators to offer a user-friendly and secure media sharing experience across all platforms. By leveraging ACCESS’ standards-based software solutions, Anvia’s customers can offer interoperable services, allowing consumers to record content and stream it to every screen. The system complies with the content industry’s requirements through card and software encryption.

“Consumers are increasingly demanding multiscreen, which creates additional challenges for our customers. By leveraging ACCESS’ solutions, we enable them to develop a number of use cases that fit in with the end user’s requests such as sharing recorded content or accessing their PayTV portal on any screen,” says Esa Wahlroos, System specialist, Anvia TV Oy. “NetFront Browser NX provides an HTML5 ready TV User Interface (UI) engine compatible with set-top boxes, smartphones, tablets, connected TVs and more. Integrating ACCESS’ browser and technology components opens new doors in media sharing across connected devices without the threat of operators losing control of the sharing experience.”

NetFront Browser NX 3.0 and NetFront Living Connect are ported to STMicroelectronics’ “Liège” platform, which supports a full multimedia ecosystem and top performance, enabling operators to offer the widest possible variety of innovative and value-added services to their subscribers.

“We are proud that Anvia, one of the largest information and communications companies in Finland, has decided to integrate our solutions to deliver its next generation TV services to operators,” said Dr Neale Foster, VP Global Sales TV, ACCESS. “Based on WebKit, NetFront NX Browser 3.0 allows video operators to use HTML5 as a development platform for advanced next generation TV and video offerings while NetFront Living Connect provides extra control, essential before content providers will allow their content be shared between all devices.”

The integration provides key functionality such as:

  • Media sharing across both managed and unmanaged devices
  • Support for HbbTV in NetFront Browser NX 3.0, enabling operators to offer access to all digital channels
  • Advanced search and discovery, allowing operators to launch interactive portals for VoD, catchup and OTT content

NetFront Browser NX 3.0 is a TV-Centric enhanced WebKit browser supporting and utilizing the latest HTML5 technologies to provide a TV UI engine that delivers greatly enriched user experiences, including 3D graphics and animations, which operators are asking for.

NetFront Living Connect has achieved an extensive track record of successful DLNA Certified® device deployments on a variety of consumer electronic devices offered by leading manufacturers in markets throughout the world and adheres to DLNA Premium Video guidelines.
