Cubiware and ALi Corporation Join in Effort to Provide High-Value Interactive STBs for New Digital Broadcast Satellite Services in Indonesia

SINGAPORE — Cubiware together with ALi Corporation today announced the signing of a licensing agreement with K-Vision, a newly formed pay-TV entity owned by Kompas Gramedia, the largest media conglomerate in Indonesia.

The agreement licenses K-Vision to deploy CubiTV on both DVB-S standard definition (SD) set-top boxes (STBs) and hybrid high definition (HD) DVB-S/OTT STBs powered by ALi’s latest chipset platforms. K-Vision, which has acquired Indonesian broadcast rights for World Cup 2014, plans eventually to make HD-quality television available throughout the country. The company began rolling out the STBs in the 2nd quarter of 2014 and expects to deploy several hundred thousand units over the coming couple of years.

The advanced, cost-effective design of the new CubiTV-enabled STBs was developed cooperatively by Cubiware and Taiwan-based chipset supplier ALi Corporation. The CubiTV implementation will include a set of interactive features custom-developed by Cubiware to differentiate the K-Vision offering from competing services and to provide added benefits to subscribers. These specificfeatures designed for one-way networks include widgets, news feeds, and Action Button Overlaythat enriches the viewing experience with supplementary content during broadcasts, also allowing for on the fly editing during live broadcasts.

“We’re delighted with the ability to enhance our competitive advantage by offering subscribers the range of customized features that are made possible by the CubiTV solution and strengthened by ALi hardware” says Harya S. Pratama, Executive Director of K-Vision. “This flexibility will allow us to continue to innovate going forward. At the same time, its very important to us that CubiTV has been proven in deployments worldwide. Its interface is accessible for users at all levels of sophistication, and it is able to achieve exceptional performance with limited burden on system resources.”

CubiTV features a highly intuitive interface that makes it easy for subscribers to navigate advanced TV functionality. It also includes a revolutionary graphics rendering engine that delivers fast, sleek menus and program guides with high-quality animation, transitions, and effects. Designed to run on low-power, small footprint DTV and IPTV processors, the STB versions of CubiTV may be deployed on both modern and legacy devices, thereby minimizing the need for hardware replacement.

“Working closely with K-Vision and ALi Corporation, we’ve been able to develop an STB solution that will offer extraordinary value to pay-TV subscribers in Indonesia, an emerging market that has tremendous potential for ongoing growth,” says Jakub Gorski, CEO of Cubiware. “The success of this effort demonstrates once again that the underlying architecture of CubiTV, with its companion product CubiSDK, offers the best of all worlds: brilliant performance, frugal resource consumption, solid reliability, easy deployment, and flexible customization. We are extremely pleased to help bring these qualities to K-Vision and through them onto the Indonesian pay-TV market.”

“ALi is proud to become a close partner of K-Vision, providing our latest DTH platform with high integration, excellent performance and outstanding support and service,” says Tony Chang, General Manager of ALi’s International Business Unit. “We are also very glad to work closely with our Middleware partner Cubiware along with the chosen STB vendors to support K-Vision’s successful launch of service. ALi will continue our investment focus in STB IC technology development, providing outstanding products and services to our customers and partners.”
