Cubiware Collaborates with CreNova Multimedia on New STB Solutions for Pay-TV

  • CubiTV Middleware to Enable Advanced Features on New Line of CreNova STBs

AMSTERDAM — Cubiware made public today an agreement with South Korean set-top box (STB) maker CreNova Multimedia to develop a joint platform for end-user delivery of pay-TV content. Focused initially on hybrid cable (DVB-C) and IPTV deployments, the first new CreNova STBs resulting from the agreement will be based on the Broadcom 7583 chipset, to be expanded soon to others as per market expectations. Cubiware will integrate CubiTV middleware for the platform, thereby enabling support for advanced capabilities such as personal video recorder (PVR), video on demand (VOD), catch-up TV, and integrated Web browsing. The platform is also CubiGo-ready, allowing operators to include full multiscreen capabilities. Initial STB models built on the platform are in the final stages of development and will be available soon.

Leveraging CreNova’s well-established presence with operators across the world, the new platform is designed as an ideal solution across a range of markets, both emerging and developed. Cubiware and CreNova also expect to cooperate in the future on platform designs for additional pay-TV sectors such as satellite and terrestrial.

“With market reach, technical expertise, and efficient manufacturing capabilities, CreNova is an ideal partner for Cubiware as we continue to extend our middleware into new markets,” says Jakub Gorski, CEO of Cubiware. “Because we’ve designed this new, jointly-developed platform around the requirements of pay-TV operators and their subscribers, we expect the new CreNova STBs to be very attractive to operators around the globe. And we look forward to continued development work with CreNova on creating additional solutions for a full range of systems.”

The inclusion of CubiTV in the CreNova platform will provide subscribers with a highly intuitive interface that will make it easy to navigate advanced pay-TV functionality. CubiTV also includes a revolutionary graphics-rendering engine that delivers fast, sleek menus and program guides with high- quality animation, transitions, and effects. CubiTV is designed to run on low-power, small footprint DTV and IPTV processors from all major silicon vendors.

“CubiTV provides us with a ready-made middleware solution that covers all of our requirements for our next generation of STBs,” says Metin Atalan, CEO of CreNova. “By combining our respective areas of engineering and product expertise, we’ve been able to develop a platform that operators will find exceptionally powerful, versatile, and cost-effective. CubiTV gets the most out of our target hardware, which allows subscribers to get the most out of their pay-TV experience. And that’s ultimately what builds satisfied, loyal customers. It was crucial that we get every aspect of our design to fit seamlessly into an integrated, high-performance whole, and by working with Cubiware we’ve been able to achieve precisely that.”
