The GS Group investment and industry holding company has announced the launch of the first tablet computer designed for viewing satellite television Tricolor TV. The tablet features pre-installed specialized software that allows subscribers from the largest Russian satellite operator to have television viewing access from anywhere in their household with Wi-Fi signal reception. This technological solution, developed by the holding company, is the next step toward implementing the concept of global satellite TV that in the future will be available for viewing anywhere in the world using mobile devices.
The television tablet, Tricolor TV GS700 was developed to expand the boundaries of TV viewing for subscribers for the second largest DTH operator in the world, Tricolor TV. The tablet operates as an independent screen in conjunction with a set of two General Satellite digital HD set-top boxes, the GS E501 and the GS S591. This provides the viewer with the opportunity to have access to different content on two TVs simultaneously by using one smart card. The device is also compatible with the GS U510, GS E212 and GS B211 receivers and acts as a mobile remote control. Connection to the set-top boxes is conducted through Wi-Fi networks. The device includes pre-installed apps that allow the user to view and control their satellite TV: Play.Tricolor, Kino.Tricolor and Guide.Tricolor.
The new device features optimal technical characteristics that rank it amongst budget tablets that have been launched by leading global electronic companies. The tablet is powered by Android 4.4 KitKat OS and is equipped with a quad-core processor MediaTek MT8127. The device features a 7-inch touchscreen display with a 1024×600 pixel resolution and IPS-matrix that provides high quality color rendering in high contrast and large viewing angles.
The quad-core Mali-450 MP4: 700 MHz video card is responsible for graphics. The tablet’s RAM is 1 GB with the internal flash memory being 4 GB. An optional microSD memory card slot up to 32 GB is also available for additional memory. B/g/n Wi-Fi modules and Bluetooth are embedded in the tablet to have an Internet connection and for data exchange. Thus, the device is ideal for video streaming viewing, in particular Tricolor TV channels. GS700 is equipped with a HDMI connector to transmit a high-definition signal to the big screen. In addition, the tablet supports Miracast technology to render wireless signal transmissions and features GPS navigation system.
The tablet boasts two cameras: the main one having a resolution of 2MP and the front-facing one having 0.3 MP. The tablet only weights around 280g and the battery capacity is equal to 2800 mAh which allows the device to operate on standby mode for up to 200 hours without charging and around 5 hours of active use in video playback mode.
The first batch of electronic devices will be included in a set of two digital HD set-top boxes, the GS E501 and the GS S591. The tablet GS700 will also hit retail networks and will be available for purchase on the online store, Cyberry.
The tablet was developed under the technological philosophy that is powered by three key fundamentals: Smart remote control, Multiscreen and Interactive entertaining services. The tablet aims at simplifying subscriber’s consumption experience and making it more interactive.
With the launch of the new product, Tricolor TV has turned into the flagship company for rendering such services for Russian consumers. The tablet release is the next step toward establishing a TV ecosystem to provide the subscriber with the combination of devices that enables content consumption from being independent from the environment.
