- Company’s field-proven MxL683 ISDB-T receiver has reached this significant market leadership milestone due to industry-best LTE immunity, performance and low cost
CARLSBAD, Calif. — MaxLinear Inc. (NYSE: MXL), a leading provider of integrated radio frequency (RF) and mixed-signal integrated circuits for broadband communications applications, said today it has sold more than 10 million MxL683 ISDB-T receivers for use in set-top boxes (STB) to operator and consumer markets in Brazil, Japan and the Philippines.
The ISDB-T market is growing as countries across the world transition from analog terrestrial TV to digital TV in order to free up wireless spectrum for other uses. But signal band adjacency to LTE/4G networks can cause TV reception interference, which operators and consumer product makers have sought to overcome and is an issue that the MxL683 addresses and resolves.
In fact, the MxL683 is a major factor in the success of the ISDB-T market, with the MaxLinear solution providing the industry’s best LTE signal protection, shielding STB reception from worst-case LTE interference. The device has passed Brazilian LTE immunity certification tests, which are some of the most stringent in the world, conducted by Mackenzie Presbyterian University’s DTV Laboratory in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the Brazilian telecommunication regulatory authority.
“The ISDB-T market is thriving and MaxLinear has been a key contributor to that growth by setting the standards for signal performance and LTE immunity,” said Yves Rasse, Senior Product Line Director for Satellite and Terrestrial TV. “Thanks to our low-cost, low-power CMOS technology, we’re able to deliver industry-leading cost-effective systems that delight customers with phenomenal reception.”
MxL683 Technical Highlights
The MxL683 is a highly integrated, single-chip ISDB-T receiver with best-in-class RF tuner and demodulator performance. The device features advanced RF tuner and an OFDM demodulator for best-in-class performance including sensitivity, LTE immunity and multi-path fading performance. The unmatched adjacent and co-channel interferer immunity provides assurance that set-top boxes will be reliable and robust in a crowded TV spectrum.
The MxL683 offers the highest level of integration and the lowest power consumption of any ISDB-T solution on the market.
The MxL683 is fully compliant with the Japanese ISDB-T (ARIB STD-B21) and Brazilian SBTVD-T (ABNT NBR 15604) terrestrial TV receiver specifications. Additional features include auxiliary channel decoding for emergency broadcast warning system, high accuracy receiver signal strength indicator (RSSI), and fast channel scan algorithm to reduce the set-top box scan time by up to 50 percent.
