ZapperBox and MaxLinear to Showcase Latest DTAstick Solutions at IBC 2015

  • Small form-factor DTAsticks provide cost-effective cable STB solutions

CARLSBAD, Calif., USA and AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — ZapperBox, a developer of compact STB-stick solutions, and MaxLinear Inc., a leading provider of integrated radio frequency (RF) and mixed signal integrated circuits for broadband communications, announced today that they will showcase the latest innovations in cable set-top box (STB) HDMI stick solutions for the North American and European cable markets at IBC 2015, held in Amsterdam, September 11-15.

Digital transport adapters (DTAs) are simple and cost-effective adapters that allow consumers access to basic digital TV channels on their second or third TVs, alleviating the need for additional expensive and feature-rich STBs in the home. The DTAstick solutions from ZapperBox use the industry-proven MxL603 cable tuner and Kore-3 EN7120 system-on-chip (SoC) solution from MaxLinear. The Kore-3 technology has been deployed in millions of DTAs globally. The unique small form factor DTAstick features an HDMI dongle for a simple connection to the TV and an F-connector that enables a direct link from the wall to the stick.

“MaxLinear’s MxL603 and EN71xx SoC are broadly deployed and proven in the global DTA market and we are excited to see this SoC being used in such an innovative form-factor. The DTAsticks from ZapperBox combine simplicity with a sophisticated feature set, enabling cost-effective bandwidth reclamation for the cable industry,” said Patrick Tierney, Senior Director of Marketing, MaxLinear.

“We are pleased to be working with MaxLinear on our latest generation DTAstick solutions. As the cable operators continue to transition customers to an all-digital experience, these low-cost and highly functional DTAsticks provide the perfect solution for the second or third home TV sets,” said Gopal Miglani, CEO, ZapperBox. “By providing OEMs with the option for a turnkey design, our DTAstick solutions can be quickly and easily deployed in the market.”

ZapperBox’s DTAstick solutions will be demonstrated at the MaxLinear IBC 2015 demonstration suite located in the Holiday Inn Amsterdam. The demonstrations will show the latest:

  • DVB-C implementation specifically for the European cable market
  • North American cable HD-DTA solutions with a variety of turnkey EPG implementations
