Growth of digital television and HD televisions is continuing with Full HD screens expected to take 33 percent of sales in 2008

At the end of the first quarter of 2008, the number of digital connections for the service providers Tele2, CanalDigitaal, KPN (Digitenne+IPTV), Kabel Overig, Ziggo and UPC grew to 3.2 million, or 45% of households. Ziggo (Zesko Holding) has now become undisputed leader in terms of connected households. That is the conclusion of the fourth edition of the Digital Television Monitor produced by the Digital Television Expert Group (Expertgroep Digitale televisie).

The number of households with an HD-Ready or Full HD screen is growing rapidly, and is expected this year by GfK to grow to 48%. Meanwhile, the proportion of flat screens in television sales in the first quarter of 2008 rose to more than 95%.

In 2007 deployments of Full HD screens rose rapidly, with GfK expecting that in 2008 33% of televisions sold will be Full HD. At the end of 2008 10% of all households will have a screen of Full HD quality.
