Strategic integration with Latens BCAS for software secured DVB-C STB for emerging markets

BELFAST, UK, & SHENZHEN, China — Latens, the market leader in next generation software conditional access (CA) and middleware for Pay-TV, today announces that Skyworth Digital (Hong Kong: 0751) has successfully integrated the company’s BCAS product with a new range of digital video broadcast cable (DVB-C) set-top boxes (STBs) for emerging markets. Skyworth Digital is a leading supplier of DVB STBs and value-added systems in China, and one of Asia’s top consumer electronics manufacturers. Skyworth’s C371N set-top box, integrated with Latens BCAS, is scheduled for deployment through a major Indian cable operator.

A solution for DVB-C networks, the Skyworth C371N set-top box supports MPEG-2 at Standard Definition and includes integration with MHEG-5 middleware. This integration offers all cable operators a highly cost effective and secure solution that provides the high performance and quality demanded by consumers.

Latens BCAS is the world’s first secure, downloadable, fully DVB compliant software-based conditional access system for Pay-TV broadcast networks over cable, satellite and digital terrestrial networks. BCAS highlights Latens’ ability to provide proven, innovative conditional access technology that allows Pay-TV operators to deliver content more securely and at a lower cost, enabling them to increase their average revenue per user (ARPU).

“We have partnered with Latens because its next generation software conditional access offers many unique advantages to the cable operator, including superior cost benefits and greater business flexibility. The unparalleled performance of Latens’ software conditional access solutions for cable, and the company’s ability and commitment to consistently deliver well tested integrations and high-quality deployments is another key reason for the success of our partnership,” said Jason Ye, Senior Sales Manager, Skyworth Digital. “Latens also shares our ethos of offering excellent customer service, which is important to us when working together to integrate our technologies, and when our products are deployed in the market.”

“We are delighted to have teamed up with Skyworth, and that our technology will be used to provide consumers in India and other markets with a cost effective set-top box solution. Partnering with Skyworth was a strategic choice so that we could provide a high quality and high performance STB at a very competitive cost of ownership for the Indian market,” said Jean-Paul Heron, Client Integration Manager, Latens. “Our partnership with Skyworth means that we are now able to offer operators of any network, be it cable, DTT, DTH or IPTV, a cost effective and software only solution to content security. I look forward to working closely with Skyworth in our current and future successes.”
