Demonstrations Illustrate Advanced Functionality Beyond Mobile TV and Highlight the Immersive, Personalized Nature of Interactive Mobile Broadcast Services

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands — Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, today announced its live, over-the-air demonstrations of the MediaFLO™ interactive broadcast mobile TV platform at IBC 2008 (Mobile Zone, Hall 12, Stand 269), which will feature audio, video and data applications delivered over both UHF and L-Band frequencies. The Company will showcase a variety of value-added mobile broadcast services, including new proof-of-concept interactivity applications that illustrate the ability to deliver immersive and personalized content over the MediaFLO platform. The demonstrations will be shown on commercial and pre-commercial mobile handsets, as well several new concept devices including a MediaFLO-enabled Wi-Fi accessory for smartphones, USB and mini-USB MediaFLO accessories for PCs and laptops, and a MediaFLO in-vehicle system.

The applications highlight numerous ways in which mobile users can closely engage with live programming and even interact with other viewers. Features of the MediaFLO applications include:

  • Real-time user presence, referrals & chat – viewers can see when their friends are watching MediaFLO, invite them to watch programs and chat with them
  • Program ratings – users can rate programs and view a live compilation of other viewers’ ratings in real time
  • Jukebox-style voting systems – users can vote on their favorite music videos and view live updates of vote tallies
  • Program reminders – viewers can set reminders to watch specific programs on their mobile devices
  • Links to social networking sites – viewers can update the status on their online profiles to let friends know when they are watching MediaFLO

“User engagement is a vital part of the MediaFLO experience,” said Neville Meijers, senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm MediaFLO Technologies. “Interactivity capitalizes on the inherent capabilities of mobile devices and allows consumers to become active participants in creating their own viewing experience.
