CAMBRIDGE, UK — ALBtelecom, the leading Albanian network operator, has selected Amino set-top boxes to support the rollout of its new ALBtv IPTV service.
The company will deploy Amino’s HD devices as part of a tripleplay package including TV services, broadband and telephony. Initially, the service will be available in the cities of Korce and Pogradec with plans to roll out across the whole country by the summer via ALBtelecom’s fibre and DSL network.
ALBtv will offer multiscreen capabilities with a range of popular news, sport and entertainment content distributed to TVs, tablets and smartphones plus a video on demand service.
ALBtelecom Chief Marketing Officer Floreta Zhulali said: “We will always bring to the Albanian market the best service and latest technology, and in our effort to successfully launch IPTV, Amino has been instrumental in securing reliable and top quality products.”
Amino Chief Executive Donald McGarva said: “We’re delighted to secure this strategic and important contract with one of Eastern Europe’s most vibrant IPTV service providers. The combination of Amino’s award winning technology and ALBtelecom’s future thinking philosophy is a compelling proposition and we look forward to supporting their service rollout.”
Created in 1912, shortly after Albania’s independence, ALBtelecom serves around 230,000 customers – over 80 per cent of the country’s fixed line telephony customer base. Over the last five years, the operator has invested over €150m in building out its fibre backbone, which now extends to over 3,000 km, and deployed DSL technologies in many parts of the country.
