BARCELONA, Spain — Newport Media, an innovative fabless semiconductor company supplying products to the mobile broadcast media industry, today announced that ALPS has formally qualified Newport Media’s 65nm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) single-chip solution and has begun high-volume, mass production of the modules for Japan’s Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) digital television standard.
The ALPS ISDB-T module integrates the NMI325 SoC in wafer level chip scale package (WLCSP) along with a UHF band filter, crystal and passive components to create an entire ISDB-T receiver subsystem that simplifies the customers’ handset designs while conserving precious board space.
“The Japanese cellular telephone is the most demanding application for ISDB-T receiver modules,” said Kazuhiko Ueda, engineering group manager of ALPS ELECTRIC CO., LTD. “Newport Media’s single die ISDB-T solution enables ALPS to provide customers with a best-in-class module from a performance and size perspective while using very cost effective construction technology which our handset customers find very attractive.”
