Newport Media and MediaTek Announce ISDB-T Cellular Phone Reference Design

BARCELONA, Spain — Newport Media, an innovative fabless semiconductor company supplying products to the mobile broadcast media industry, and MediaTek, Inc. (TPE: 2454), a leading fabless semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions, today announced the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) joint reference design that covers the system level pre-integration of mobile TV system-on-chip (SoC) and software technology into several of MediaTek’s advanced GPRS-EDGE cellular baseband IC platforms.
The handset manufacturers using MediaTek’s MT6238 and MT6239 GPRS-EDGE baseband ICs can realize the benefits of fast time to market, reduced development costs and significant unit cost saving by utilizing this joint reference design from Newport Media and MediaTek. The MediaTek MT6238/9 platform features a high performance multimedia system with an integrated H.264 A/V decoder that when combined with Newport Media’s NMI320/326 ISDB-T SoC and middleware solution, provides a complete end-to-end ISDB-T mobile TV solution for the Latin American handset market.
