Viaccess, a France Telecom (Paris and NYSE: FTE) company and leader in conditional access solutions, and Trusted Logic, the leading provider of Trusted Execution Environments for embedded systems, today announced they are collaborating to integrate and market the Viaccess OMA DRM v2 solution for the mobile handset market.

The agreement will allow customers to gain access to Viaccess’ OMA DRM v2 technology, secured by Trusted Logic’s Trusted Foundations™ software. Customers will also benefit from Trusted Logic’s expertise in mobile operating system integration.

Since 2005 and the first full deployment of the OMA DRM v2 solution with Orange, Viaccess has been at the forefront of OMA DRM development. The Viaccess portfolio of DRM solutions includes a server-side multi-DRM service called “Purple DRM”, and client software, “Purple Play”, that can be integrated into a mobile handset.

Trusted Logic’s Trusted Foundations provides an environment to secure sensitive applications on the handset itself. The demand for Digital Rights Management (DRM), and more specifically OMA DRM v2, is driven by smartphones and their capability to play richer multimedia content, which needs to be protected.

Trusted Foundations is an open environment that allows handset manufacturers to develop their own DRM solutions or to buy them from a third party. The collaboration between Trusted Logic and Viaccess will allow both organisations to enter the mobile market with a secure integrated solution designed to protect high-value content.

François Moreau de Saint Martin, CEO of Viaccess, comments: “Through the partnership with Trusted Logic, mobile handset manufacturers will benefit from a secure OMA DRM v2 solution that will address the growing consumption of premium content on mobile devices that needs to be protected with an open-standard DRM technology.”

Dominique Bolignano, President of Trusted Logic, comments: “DRM is a key element of Trusted Logic’s vision in the deployment of value-added services on mobile handsets. With the secure porting of Viaccess’ solution on Trusted Foundations, our customers can launch products earlier and more efficiently, while adding security without penalty.”
