Nokia Siemens Networks and Intel jointly expand IPTV solution with Home Networking
Friday, September 7th, 2007Amsterdam, The Netherlands / Espoo, Finland — At IBC in Amsterdam, September 6 – 11, 2007, Intel and Nokia Siemens Networks will demonstrate Digital Home Networking features that enable simplified content access.
Nokia Siemens Networks and Intel are cooperating closely to add attractive new Digital Home Networking features to Nokia Siemens Networks’ end-to-end solution for IPTV – television over an IP (Internet Protocol)-based broadband connection. The use of UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) and DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) standards for Home Networking will enable consumers to share their favorite pictures, videos and other PC-based content with all the TV sets in the household. Some of these comfort features of the IPTV solution are enabled by the Intel® Viiv™ Processor Technology, Intel’s premier brand for consumer PCs designed for digital entertainment.
Nokia Siemens Networks’ end-to-end IPTV solution uses its field-proven, leading middleware as well as best-of-breed components for encryption/content protection, content server, TV headend and set-top box. This preeminent IPTV solution enhances consumers’ choice, convenience and control with advanced digital entertainment services including selecting, watching and recording TV programs directly from an easy-to-use electronic program guide (EPG) as well as true on demand services, games and access to web browser-based programs. Nokia Siemens Networks’ worldwide presence and experience in IPTV deployments are a solid basis for being successful in this innovative entertainment market.
PCs based on Intel Viiv Processor Technology are built with Intel’s high performance dual-core and quad-core processors, chipsets, networking silicon and special software. These PCs are complemented by online entertainment services and applications that have been verified to work with the Intel Viiv Technology – enabling consumers to access and share great content like movies, music, videos and games online in an easy fashion.
Thanks to the new Digital Home Networking features of Nokia Siemens Networks’ IPTV solution, users can share their favorite content from their private PCs with all the TV sets in the household via the set-top box. The IPTV set-top box thus becomes the best way to watch a slide show stored on a PC, for example. Thanks to Intel® Smart Streaming Technology, users can also use their TV set to enjoy videos stored on their PCs.
