New Single-die MDTV Receiver Introduces New Levels of Optimizations Tailored for ISDB-T Standard-based Mobile Terminals

SÃO PAULO, Brazil — Siano Mobile Silicon, the leading supplier of mobile digital TV (MDTV) receiver chips, announced today the launch of a new product, targeting the emerging mobile TV market in the Latin America. The SMS2130 supports the ISDB-T mobile technology, also known as ISDB-T “1-Seg”.

Leveraging Siano’s experience and leadership in the global mobile TV markets for over five years, the SMS2130 introduces new levels of optimizations in performance and cost that suit the specific needs of the Latin American consumer market.

Mobile digital TV services are already available in more than 40 cities in Brazil, covering a population of more than 70M. The services are being offered for free, with concrete plans to introduce advanced data and interactive services in 2011, generating exciting new revenue generation possibilities for the various players in the eco-system.

“Siano-based products have been selling in high volumes in Brazil for a few months now under the leading mobile operators such as Vivo, Claro and TIM,” said Pompilio Roselli, Siano’s General Manager for the LATAM region. “The introduction of the SMS2130 enables our customers to keep rolling out new exciting MDTV in their mobile devices and terminals, using a receiver that is smaller in size, that has improved performance and extremely low power consumption. It is targeted at the demanding consumer of LATAM, providing best user experience in the market.

“Siano already has the largest market share in mobile and portable devices that have mobile TV integrated,” added Alon Ironi, CEO of Siano. “Our new single-die receiver chip enables us to further expand our market share, and help our customers introduce mobile TV to a whole new set of products such as Personal Navigation Devices, Personal Media Players, Portable TV’s and more, first in Brazil but very soon in Argentina, Chile, and other LATAM countries. The consumers are enthusiastically adopting the new digital-based TV experience, because the current viewing experience is poor on other devices that use old Analog signals.

The SMS2130 is Siano’s first member in a complete new family of products for the LATAM market, which we will announce in the next few months.”

The SMS2130 is available in samples to select customers. Siano reported that it is already engaged with a few customers developing consumer electronic products as well as mobile phones using the SMS2130.
