NorDig approves Unified Requirements v3.1
Monday, October 8th, 2018
The Executive Committee for NorDig decided on Thursday October 4 to approve a new version of specifications of digital TVs and STBs (commonly IRDs).
Among the novelties in this specification, NorDig Unified Requirements v3.1, is Next Generation Audio (NGA) is now added and is intended to be used for HEVC based services. The decision for NGA is that it is based upon the AC-4 codec from Dolby. NorDig is now probably one of the first to specify IRD implementation details for NGA. Further there are updates for the use of the latest HbbTV and extra security for HEVC/UHD services (CI+ ECP). The specifications will be published on NorDigs.org as soon as possible.
NorDig Executive Committee has also decided to start investigating the possibilities to include High Frame Rate and dynamic HDR for HEVC during late 2019.
In the same meeting Excom also approved the Test Plan spec v2.6 addendum for system software update.
NorDig is specifying a common platform for Digital Television to be used within the Nordic region (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden) and Éire. NorDig is an open specification free to use.
