South Africa's Cabinet issues statement on conditional access
Dec 5, 2013 – South Africa's Cabinet has decided that the use of a control system should not be mandatory. The STBs will, however, have a control system to protect Government’s investment in the subsidized STB market and the local electronics industry.

Oct 3, 2012 – At South Africa's Proof of Concept launch of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), the country's Minister of Communications said that the commercial launch of DTT will take place in December this year.

South Africa announces DTT STB subsidy plans
Oct 22, 2009 – As part of its transition to digital TV, South Africa's Cabinet has allocated R400 million to subsidise the set-top boxes of up to 5 million poor households. The country's Bureau of Standards is finalising a South African DTT STB standard.

Digital TV Labs provides test suite for South Africa's DTT trial
May 6, 2009 – Digital TV Labs is providing its Evora iSuite test technology to support the current DTT trial in South Africa. Evora has been successfully used to test set-top boxes against the South African DVB-T with MPEG-4 specification.

IMPALA welcomes inclusion of MHEG-5 in South Africa DTT trial
Feb 2, 2009 – The International MHEG Promotion Alliance (IMPALA) has confirmed that MHEG-5 is included as part of the recently started DTT trial in South Africa. The DTT trial, which began in November, is designed to test a variety of technical factors.
