DIRECTV® MFH2™ Includes Entropic’s Channel Stacking Switch Technology to Support Multiple Receivers Over a Single Wire

2008 International CES, Las Vegas, NV — Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTR), a leading provider of systems solutions to enable connected home entertainment, today announced that DIRECTV (NASDAQ:DTV), the industry leader in HD programming, has incorporated Entropic’s Channel Stacking Switch technology in DIRECTV’s MFH2 deployments to multi-residence homes. The MFH2 includes a single wire multi-switch delivering high volumes of HD programming content over a single wire. The MFH2 will be on display at CES in Entropic’s booth #25749, South Hall 2 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

HD Programming Delivered with Ease

The DIRECTV MFH2, DIRECTV’s first consumer product utilizing Entropic’s Channel Stacking Switch (CSS) integrated circuits, is a cost effective solution for delivering the full suite of DIRECTV services to multi-residence homes. The integrated Channel Stacking Switch ICs support up to eight tuners over a single wire lowering both equipment and installation costs.

“Entropic’s Channel Stacking Switch technology is helping us cost effectively deliver the full suite of DIRECTV services to multifamily homes by utilizing existing in-building wiring and enabling a single wire solution,” said Philip Goswitz, Vice-President of Engineering, DIRECTV, Inc. “This technology allows our customers to easily receive all of DIRECTV’s programming and services on multiple receivers in their homes.”

Benefits of Channel Stacking Switch Technology

Entropic’s Channel Stacking Switch ICs significantly reduce both the cost and the cabling complexity of single family and multi-resident home DBS installations. Unlike traditional satellite installations, which require a unique cable for each tuner from the satellite dish to the set-top box, Entropic’s Channel Stacking Switch solutions enable multiple video streams from individual or multiple satellites into the home over a single cable. This simplified cabling architecture enables the deployment of set-top boxes, with multiple tuner capabilities, in multiple rooms without expensive installation or retrofitting. Additionally, Channel Stacking Switch technology enables plug and play for set-top box upgrades and allows installers to reuse existing cabling to quickly set up a DBS system.

“We are delighted DIRECTV has selected our Channel Stacking Switch technology to optimize how HD programming is delivered to their subscribers,” said John Graham, Vice President of Marketing at Entropic. “As a company, we are focused on delivering solutions for connected home entertainment and our Channel Stacking Switch technology creates new markets for operators by bringing satellite television into residential homes and multi-dwelling units with ease.”
