Taiwan Cable Operator, Kbro, chooses Alticast’s AltiPlatform™ to power system upgrade to Android TV
SEOUL, South Korea — Alticast, an end-to-end media solutions provider, today announced that Kbro, one of Taiwan’s largest broadband and cable TV service providers, has selected Alticast’s AltiPlatform as the middleware solution to seamlessly integrate Kbro’s existing service infrastructure with Android TV.
This upgrade will deliver the operator’s traditional cable services as well as give subscribers access to numerous over-the-top options such as YouTube, and over 3,600 TV apps on Google Play™. Alticast will bundle AltiPlatform-Android with their award-winning AltiView™ product to deliver a dynamic and interactive user experience.
Alticast’s AltiPlatform-Android has been deployed by Korean operators, KT Skylife and CJ Hello, but this is the first time that this solution has been deployed in an overseas market. KT Skylife and CJ Hello have since benefited from the flexibility and simplicity of transition that AltiPlatform provided and the new services that Android TV has brought to their customers.
“We are excited to be working with Kbro to enhance their services,” said Dosa Park, Head of Media Business Division at Alticast. “The flexibility of our AltiPlatform middleware will allow for a seamless integration of Android enabling Kbro to keep their operating costs to a minimum during this time of system advancement. The bundling of our AltiPlatform and AltiView products will enhance the overall user experience and thus, increase Kbro’s monetization potential.”
This is not the first time that Alticast and Kbro have joined forces. Alticast’s AltiPlatform has been serving as Kbro’s MHP middleware in their existing Linux-based set-top-box service.
“Alticast continues to provide us with the tools needed to stay competitive in our ever-changing industry,” said Chipin Chen, Senior Director of Kbro. “We are looking forward to being able to benefit from the innovation and offerings that Android TV offers. The flexibility of an Android TV service will allow our subscribers to seamlessly and agnostically enjoy more content, ensuring their viewing experience is effortless and enjoyable.”
Initial deployment is expected to launch in late 2019.
