Amis Telekom Selects Next-Generation Video Delivery Solution to Power On-Demand TV Services

STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Edgeware, the technology leader in distributed video delivery, today announced that Amis Telekom selected the company’s video servers to power their advanced on-demand TV services, which have been rolled out in record time in Slovenia and Croatia.

TV viewers increasingly want to watch the content of their choice at the time of their choosing. Operators are looking for efficient ways to quickly deploy and scale new on-demand services to stay competitive in a rapidly changing TV market.

“We were able to launch the Amis TV service across two countries within only four months,” says Tomaž Stegel, IP TV project manager of Amis. “The Edgeware solution is very easy to deploy and offers the full range of time-shift TV and on-demand functionalities within one extremely powerful box. The integration with Edgeware was practically seamless, and their greatest benefit is the fast responsiveness of the on demand services.”

With Amis TV, Edgeware increases its footprint in two fast growing TV markets. Croatia has seen a rapid up-take of IPTV services in recent years, and in Slovenia, the use of IPTV services has reached a similar level of penetration to that of France.

“Amis has successfully entered two highly competitive national TV markets, where operators are challenged to quickly introduce and scale attractive and innovative new services,” says Tim Bray, Channel Sales Director of Edgeware. “Quality of experience and cost-efficient delivery are key success factors, and Edgeware´s solution is gaining momentum in the dynamic Eastern European market.”

The Amis TV service offers VoD, nPVR and time-shifting of the 30 most popular TV channels, allowing the viewers to watch their favourite TV content on their own terms. The service includes Pause live TV, restart-TV and historic EPG with 48 hours of catch-up TV. All the time-shifting functionalities are deployed in the network, using the built-in capabilities of the Edgeware appliances.
