HD and 4K Westinghouse Roku TV Models Coming to the U.S. in 2019
LAS VEGAS — CES — Roku, Inc. (Nasdaq: ROKU) today announced Westinghouse Electronics as the newest TV brand to join the Roku TV™ licensing program. Westinghouse Electronics will leverage the Roku TV hardware reference design and Roku OS to deliver HD Westinghouse Roku TV models, expected in the first half of 2019, and 4K Westinghouse Roku TV models hitting shelves later in the year.
“The Roku brand is synonymous with streaming and its popular smart TV platform helps us offer a content-rich experience for our customers that is very easy to use,” said Brett Hunt, Westinghouse Electronics Vice-President of Sales & Marketing. “We can focus on building eco-friendly, energy-saving displays while Roku manages the smart TV platform offering an overall incredible value.”
“The Roku TV licensing program has seen a lot of momentum. During the first nine months of 2018 more than one in four smart TVs sold in the U.S. were Roku TVs,” said Chas Smith, General Manager, Roku TV & Players. “We are looking forward to delivering new Westinghouse Roku TVs in the coming year. We know customers will love how easy they are to use, the vast amount of content they have access to and our commitment to make sure they have the latest and greatest software for years to come.”
The Roku TV licensing program offers TV OEM partners a purpose-built and reliable solution for building HD or 4K and HDR smart TVs that consumers love to use. Roku provides a low-cost hardware reference design, automatic software updates that deliver new features and an ever-growing library of content, so OEMs can offer best-in-class smart TVs at competitive price points.
The Roku OS offers access to 500,000+ movies and TV episodes via thousands of free or paid channels. Fast and easy search across hundreds of channels returns results in order by price, plus what’s playing live when an HDTV antenna is attached. The Roku Channel offers 10,000+ free ad-supported movies and TV episodes and later this month customers will also be able to browse, trial and subscribe to premium subscriptions from popular services. The Roku Channel provides easy account management and a single bill for services subscribed to within the channel. Free content is also easy to find with Featured Free as it provides users with direct links to free in-season episodes from top network shows and full past-season catch-ups.
