5G estimated to reach 1.5 billion subscriptions in 2024

Vodafone makes UK’s first holographic call using 5G
Sep 20, 2018 – Vodafone has conducted the UK’s first live holographic call using 5G technology. The call from Vodafone’s Manchester office featured England and Manchester City Women’s Football Captain, Steph Houghton MBE. Using 5G technology, Steph appeared as a live 3D hologram on stage in front of an audience at Vodafone’s UK headquarters in Newbury.

5G trials in full swing with 12% of operators moving to deployment this year
Aug 20, 2018 – Eighty-two percent of mobile operators participating in a 5G study conducted by IHS Markit (Nasdaq: INFO) are busy trialing and testing the technology, mainly in North America and Asia, with 12 percent -- all from North America -- planning commercial 5G rollouts by year’s end.

Samsung, Cisco and Orange trial 5G home entertainment and smart city applications in Romania
Jul 2, 2018 – Samsung and Cisco have announced the completion of a trial and 5G demonstrations with Orange in Romania. During the trial, several parallel UHD videos and VR sessions were streamed simultaneously over the same 5G broadband connection.

KDDI and Samsung complete live free-viewpoint video stream test on 5G

FOX, Ericsson, Intel and AT&T stream 2018 U.S. Open in 4K over 5G
