Satellite subscribers grow 50% in Mexico in 2009

According to Mexico’s Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (COFETEL), cable TV subscriptions in the country grew by 5.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2009 compared with the same period in 2008, to reach 5.042 million users.
On the same basis, users of Satellite TV (DTH) grew by 51.8 percent to give a total of 2.3 million.
Microwave (MMDS) subscribers fell by 29.8 percent, which resulted in the number of subscribers to this service finishing at 488 thousand in December 2009.
