Mexico plans $1.6bn of DTT set-top box subsidy
Saturday, September 4th, 2010The Government of Mexico will invest 1.6 billion USD to subsidise the purchase of DTT set-top boxes for the 23 million households in the country, the chairman of Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Commission (Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones – COFETEL), Mony de Swaan, has said.
The subsidy will be funded out of the revenue from the auction of spectrum in the 700MHz band that will become free in 2012 as part of Mexico’s analogue switch over programme.
