Mexico satellite TV subscriptions up 83.8% in 2010

DISTRITO FEDERAL, Mexico — In 2010, Mexico’s telecommunications sector registered growth of 13.6% according to the country’s Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (COFETEL). Satellite television remained the most dynamic segment of the sector.
According to Mexico’s Telecommunications Sector Production Index (Ãndice de Producción del Sector Telecomunicaciones – ITEL), an indicator published by COFETEL that measures the behaviour of the principal services offered by the industry, over 2010 the satellite TV (DTH) segment registered subscriber growth of 83.8%. At the end of December there were 4.2 million DTH users.
MMDS registered a decrease of 33.4% to end with 326,000 subscribers and Cable TV subscriptions increased by 5.4% with the number of subscribers for this segment reaching 5.334 million.
