LAS VEGAS (National Association of Broadcasters Convention — Booths SL106/SL2120) — Thomson’s (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS) mobile TV solutions are now in commercial deployments in 11 of the 14 countries that already have DVB-H deployments. The countries are Russia, Italy, South Africa, Ivory Coast, UAE, Albania, Philippines, Namibia, Kenya, Nigeria and the Netherlands. Thomson’s video Head-ends, service platforms and transmitters are confirming their leadership in DVB-H solutions worldwide among both mobile operators and broadcasters.

The DVB-H market is predicted for strong growth and according to the latest report on Mobile Video by analysts Infonectics Research, the number of DVB-H mobile TV subscribers will grow to 11.7 million by 2010 and a large number of countries are set to launch commercial services by the end of 2008.

Thomson has the unique capability to integrate all components of a mobileTV infrastructure, from the camera to the transmitter including the service platform. Its comprehensive head-end solutions are leading the market, its advanced service platform allows convergent services, and its transmitter range allows drastic savings on total cost of ownership.

The flexibility of Thomson’s mobile TV solutions not only allows multiple operators to share a common broadcast infrastructure, as illustrated by Multichoice in South Africa, but also gives operators the means to address several countries from a single platform.

Additional innovations brought by Thomson include automatic content re-framing embedded in the encoder to enhanced customers’ perceived perception of quality and thus their willingness to pay for mobile TV services. Thomson’s mobile TV solutions are compatible with all distribution standards (such as DVB-H, 3GPP, Mediaflo and ATSC-MH), multiple CAS solutions and the OMA BCAST SmartCard Profile standard for user rights management embedded in the SIM card.
