27.8 million will have IP Hybrid TV in Latin America by 2015

According to a new research of NexTV Latam, by 2015, there will be 27.8 million households with IP Hybrid TV in Latin America. The report estimates that 41.4% of those households with Hybrid IPTV will have an IP-DTH option, 38.4% IP-DTT and 20.2% IP-Digital Cable.

The new report “IP Hybrid TV in Latin America 2010-2015” addresses the phenomenon of IP Hybrid TV in 18 Latin American countries. Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina will represent 85% of households with hybrid STBs.

Total volume of IP hybrid TV will be equivalent to 17.4% of households with TV set. Even more important, forecast shows that households with Hybrid TV to 2015 will be equivalent to 41.9% of households with fixed broadband access in Latin America.

Basically, hybrid TV has an IP connection in the Set Top Box or other home device capable of receiving and decoding Digital TV (televisions, game consoles, etc.) This way, a universe of interactive features for Digital TV is opened, for both free-to-air or subscription services: Video on Demand, Pay per View, Catch-Up, widgets, access to search engines and social networks, among others.
