Demand for local content will spur rapid MENA media growth

IPTV will account for 24% of UK media connections by end-2018
Nov 17, 2014 – Quantum-Web analysis shows that IPTV share of media connections doubled during 2014, rising from 7.4% at end-2013 to 14.9% at end-2014. This shift towards IPTV will continue and IPTV will account for 23.7% of UK media connections by end-2018.

Major U.S. pay TV providers lose 150,000 subscribers in 3Q 2014
Nov 14, 2014 – Leichtman Research (LRG) has found that the thirteen largest pay-TV providers in the US lost about 150,000 net video subscribers in 3Q 2014, compared to a loss of about 25,000 video subscribers in 3Q 2013, and more net losses than in any previous third quarter.

Ultra HD and HEVC set-top box shipments to explode
Nov 11, 2014 – ​Worldwide Ultra HD capable set-top box shipments will reach 48 million by 2020, while the market for HEVC set-top boxes will rise even further to 88 million units, according to ABI Research. Early prototypes have been based primarily on Broadcom or ViXS decoders.

Beltelecom expands DVB-T2 pay TV coverage in Belarus
Nov 10, 2014 – Belarus national telecoms provider, Beltelecom, has announced the expansion of its Zala DVB-T2 pay TV service to more areas of the country. The operator has added the cities of Masty and Grodno in the Grodno region, taking coverage to around 40% of the territory of Belarus.

India registers 2.75 million additional DTH subscribers in 2Q 2014
