Verimatrix Selected to Secure CANTV Pay-TV Service in Venezuela
Jun 17, 2009 – Verimatrix has announced CANTV as the latest Americas customer to select the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for IPTV. CANTV plans to offer IPTV services with 140 channels to 67,000 subscribers.

Latin America dances to a digital tune
May 27, 2009 – Research from Informa Telecoms & Media shows that digital TV will make significant progress in Latin America over the next five years. Digital TV households will more than treble in that time - from 12.2 million at present to 37.1 million by 2014.

Telefónica pay TV accesses exceed 2.3 million
May 13, 2009 – Telefónica (Madrid and NYSE: TEF) has released its first quarter 2009 results. Pay TV accesses exceeded 2.3 million by the end of March, almost 25% more than a year ago. However, subscriber numbers in Spain fell by 7,700 in the quarter.

DIRECTV U.S. at 18 million subscribers; DTVLA at 4 million
May 7, 2009 – The DIRECTV Group (NASDAQ:DTV) has reported results for the first quarter. DIRECTV U.S. net subscriber additions were 460,000 to give 18.08 million, and DIRECTV Latin America net subscriber additions were 148,000 to give 4.03 million, at quarter end.

Venezuela may have chosen China's DTMB for DTT
May 4, 2009 – According to the portal Inside Telecom, Venezuela has chosen China's DTMB for its digital TV services. The decision is expected to be made official on May 18.

Telefónica Quarterly Results 2008 January - December
Feb 26, 2009 – Telefónica (Madrid and NYSE: TEF) has released its 2008 results. Pay TV accesses stood at over 2.2 million at the end of 2008, up almost 30% on the prior year, driven by net adds of 109,500 in the fourth quarter and some 519,500 in the year.

CANTV of Venezuela chooses ZTE and Verimatrix for IPTV
Jan 29, 2009 – CANTV of Venezuela has chosen ZTE as the system integrator for its IPTV platform, due for launch at the end of 2009 or early 2010. ZTE will provide its own middleware, with set-top boxes coming from a variety of Asian manufacturers.
