HDMI Forum releases Version 2.1 of the HDMI specification
Nov 28, 2017 – HDMI Forum has announced the release of Version 2.1 of the HDMI Specification. The latest specification supports a range of higher video resolutions and refresh rates including 8K60 and 4K120, and resolutions up to 10K. Dynamic HDR formats are also supported.

Smart TVs to drive nearly half of US installed Connected TV device growth
Jun 28, 2017 – By the end of 2020 there are forecast to be 260 million installed devices attached to the internet and able to deliver apps to TVs, according to NPD. This represents 31 percent growth in TV-connected devices over the forecast period.

Online video to push Western Europe home video to €8.7bn by 2020
May 17, 2017 – IHS Markit (Nasdaq: INFO) expects total consumer spending on home video in Western Europe to increase with a CAGR of 3.5% per year, to reach €8.7 billion by 2020. The market demonstrated confident expansion over 2016 at 2.6%, reaching €7.9 billion.

DEG releases First Quarter 2017 Home Entertainment Report
May 4, 2017 – U.S. consumer spending on home entertainment was up slightly for the first quarter of 2017, reaching $4.7 billion. Home entertainment results outperformed relative to box office, which was off 11% versus the same period in the prior year.

69% of U.S. TV households have a connected TV

Vudu launches mobile disc-to-digital service

Sharp launches Ultra HD Blu-ray Recorders powered by ViXS SoCs
