Telefónica pay TV accesses exceed 2.3 million
May 13, 2009 – Telefónica (Madrid and NYSE: TEF) has released its first quarter 2009 results. Pay TV accesses exceeded 2.3 million by the end of March, almost 25% more than a year ago. However, subscriber numbers in Spain fell by 7,700 in the quarter.

DIRECTV U.S. at 18 million subscribers; DTVLA at 4 million
May 7, 2009 – The DIRECTV Group (NASDAQ:DTV) has reported results for the first quarter. DIRECTV U.S. net subscriber additions were 460,000 to give 18.08 million, and DIRECTV Latin America net subscriber additions were 148,000 to give 4.03 million, at quarter end.

Brazil to mandate ISDB in TVs next year
Apr 30, 2009 – The Brazilian Government plans to force manufacturers of TV sets of 32" or above to incorporate ISDB-T digital TV reception capability in new models released next year.

Cable TV subscribers in Brazil exceed 4 million
Apr 29, 2009 – ANATEL has released March's quarterly report on the pay TV market in Brazil. Cable TV remains dominant in the country with subscriber numbers passing the 4 million mark in March. DTH (satellite) numbers remain steady at around 2.1 million.

Telefónica Quarterly Results 2008 January - December
Feb 26, 2009 – Telefónica (Madrid and NYSE: TEF) has released its 2008 results. Pay TV accesses stood at over 2.2 million at the end of 2008, up almost 30% on the prior year, driven by net adds of 109,500 in the fourth quarter and some 519,500 in the year.

Telefonica and TVA launch 'Trio Xtreme' in São Paulo
Feb 17, 2009 – Telefónica Brazil has launched its 'Trio Xtreme' triple play service in São Paulo in partnership with TVA. The service runs on Telefónica's fibre-optic (FTTH) network and offers TV, telephony and broadband up to 30 Mbps.

Feb 10, 2009 – The DIRECTV Group (NASDAQ:DTV) has reported fourth quarter 2008 results. DIRECTV U.S. ended the quarter with 17.62 million subscribers, up from 16.83 million on December 31, 2007. DIRECTV Latin America had 3.88 million subscribers at year end.
