Telefónica and NAGRA launch Pay TV in Latin America

DIRECTV adds 139,000 subscribers; DTVLA adds 260,000 in 3Q 2013

Telefonica Europe pay TV subscribers continue to decline
May 8, 2013 – Telefónica (Madrid and NYSE: TEF) has released its first quarter (January to March) 2013 results. Pay TV accesses in Latin America reached 2.5 million, up 7% year-on-year. In Europe pay TV subscribers declined to 852 thousand from 1.03 million at the end of March 2012, a fall of 17%.

300,000 homes receiving Cantv's satellite TV service in Venezuela
May 7, 2013 – State-owned Cantv has announced that 300,000 Venezuelan homes are now receiving its Cantv Televisión Satelital direct-to-home (DTH) satellite TV service. The service consists of 48 channels of video and 20 of audio, and is broadcast on the country's Simón Bolívar satellite.

DIRECTV surpasses 16 million subscriber mark in Latin America
May 7, 2013 – DIRECTV (NASDAQ:DTV) has announced results for the first quarter of 2013. DIRECTV U.S. subscribers were stable at around 20 million. DTVLA added 583,000 to end with 10.91 million subscribers and Sky Mexico had 5.41 million subscribers as of March 31, 2013.

Pay TV household penetration reaches 50% in Venezuela
May 3, 2013 – According to preliminary statistics published by its Comisión Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CONATEL), pay TV subscriptions in Venezuela at the end of March 2013 were 3.61 million, up from 2.89 million at the end of the first quarter of 2012. Household penetration reached 49.97%.
