GVT and EchoStar plan pay TV joint venture in Brazil

Brazil's pay TV subscriber growth drops off in 2Q 2013
Aug 8, 2013 – According to Brazil's Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações (Anatel), the country's pay TV subscriber base ended June 2013 at 16.96 million, with more than 2.4 million new subscribers being added over the preceding 12 months - an annual growth rate of 16.7%.

Brazil to move final analogue switchover to 2018
Jun 11, 2013 – Brazil has announced that it has updated its plan for analogue television shut down. The schedule will now begin in March 2015 and end in 2018. The original plan was that the shutdown of the analogue service and the migration to fully digital would occur in 2016.

Telefonica Europe pay TV subscribers continue to decline
May 8, 2013 – Telefónica (Madrid and NYSE: TEF) has released its first quarter (January to March) 2013 results. Pay TV accesses in Latin America reached 2.5 million, up 7% year-on-year. In Europe pay TV subscribers declined to 852 thousand from 1.03 million at the end of March 2012, a fall of 17%.

DIRECTV surpasses 16 million subscriber mark in Latin America
May 7, 2013 – DIRECTV (NASDAQ:DTV) has announced results for the first quarter of 2013. DIRECTV U.S. subscribers were stable at around 20 million. DTVLA added 583,000 to end with 10.91 million subscribers and Sky Mexico had 5.41 million subscribers as of March 31, 2013.
