Chips&Media delivers AVS+ cores for set-top box in China
Aug 2, 2013 – Chips&Media has announced that it has delivered its CODA966 and CODA988, the first AVS+ enabled cores, to a couple of leading semiconductor companies. The new AVS+ standard is already being used on a trial basis for 3D satellite broadcasting in China.

Satellite TV subscribers pass the 1 million mark in Chile
Aug 1, 2013 – Chile's Subtel has released pay TV statistics for the country to the end of March 2013. From the end of March 2012, satellite subscribers increased from 943,844 to 1,039,535 (up 10.1%) whereas wired (cable TV and IPTV) subscribers only grew from 1,162,383 to 1,205,918 (up 3.7%).

DIRECTV U.S. subscribers down 84,000 in 2Q 2013
Aug 1, 2013 – DIRECTV (NASDAQ:DTV) has announced second quarter 2013 results. DIRECTV U.S. net subscribers declined by 84,000 in the quarter principally due to lower gross subscriber additions. DTVLA net additions in the quarter were 165,000.

Lybid TV deploys Exset conditional access for Ukrainian launch
Aug 1, 2013 – Exset has revealed that its conditional access technology - Exset CAS - has been deployed by Lybid TV, a new pay-TV DTH platform for the Ukraine. Lybid TV, which launched in July this year can be received on a 60cm dish via Eutelsat.

Ofcom releases UK Communications Market Report 2013
Aug 1, 2013 – Huge growth in take-up of smartphones and tablets is creating a nation of media multi-taskers, Ofcom research has revealed, transforming the traditional UK living room into a digital media hub. In addition, seven per cent of TV households had a Smart TV at the end of the Q1 2013.

Comcast reports second quarter 2013 results
Jul 31, 2013 – Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA, CMCSK) has reported results for the quarter ended June 30, 2013. Revenue for Cable Communications increased 5.8% to $10.5 billion in the second quarter of 2013 compared to $9.9 billion in the second quarter of 2012.

Bharti Airtel Digital TV adds 352,000 subscribers in 2Q 2013
Jul 31, 2013 – Bharti Airtel has announced its results for the quarter ended June 30, 2013. Airtel digital TV had 8.452 million customers on its Direct-To-Home (DTH) platform at the end of the period compared with 8.1 million at the end of March 2013.

BRIC countries keep Pay-TV market growing despite cable subscriber losses
Jul 30, 2013 – Infonetics Research has released excerpts from its latest Pay TV Services and Subscribers report. Cable makes up the largest portion of the pay-TV market, but this will change by 2017 when satellite grows to more than 40% of total pay-TV revenue.
