Dec 10, 2014 – Ownership of Connected TV Devices (including smart TVs, smart blu-ray players, IP-enabled game consoles and digital media streamers) in the U.S. grew 5 percent quarter-on-quarter in Q3 2014 and 28 percent year-on-year to reach 168 million units.

Tablets are fastest growing connected device in U.S.
Dec 9, 2014 – Tablet ownership among U.S. consumers is on the rise, and growing at a faster rate than that of any other connected device. According to NPD, as of the third quarter of 2014 there were 109 million tablets in use, up 35 million from last year.

DIRECTV launches 4K Ultra HD-capable satellite
Dec 6, 2014 – DIRECTV has announced the launch of its DIRECTV 14 satellite. The satellite will be used to deliver 4K Ultra HD TV to viewers’ homes, along with more HD for local markets and will act as a backup for DIRECTV’s existing fleet of six HD satellites.

10% of U.S. broadband households have bought a streaming media device to date in 2014
Dec 2, 2014 – Parks Associates have announced updated streaming media device data showing that 10% of U.S. broadband households purchased one of these devices, either a streaming media player or stick, in the first three quarters of 2014.

Netflix heading for 17 million international subscribers
Dec 2, 2014 – Netflix is expected to achieve 17 million paying subscribers to its international operations by the end of 2014, following its announcement of 14.4 million international subs in September. Launches in six European countries during September will help to boost the total.

SeaChange selected by Layer3 TV for cable TV delivery

Digital media players both enhance and detract from regular TV viewing
Dec 1, 2014 – 19% of U.S. TV viewers now own at least one of the three major digital media players. While digital media players enable use of streaming video and other platforms that enhance viewer control, GfK research suggests that they may actually provide a net gain for traditional TV viewing.
