DIRECTV U.S. up 224,000 subscribers and DTVLA up 128,000 in 2Q09
Aug 6, 2009 – The DIRECTV Group (NASDAQ:DTV) has reported second quarter 2009 results. DIRECTV U.S. net subscriber additions were 224,000 to give 18.31 million, and DIRECTV Latin America net subscriber additions were 128,000 to give 4.16 million, at quarter end.

Liberty Global adds 370k digital cable subscribers in 2Q09
Aug 4, 2009 – Liberty Global (NASDAQ: LBTYA, LBTYB and LBTYK) has announced results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2009. Digital cable remains the strongest of segment, with the addition of 370,000 subscribers in the three months ended June 30, 2009.

Costa Rica's ICE to use Minerva, Widevine and Amino for IPTV
Aug 4, 2009 – Costa Rica's ICE will soon sign a contract with system integrator ITS for the deployment of its IPTV service. Middleware will come from Minerva Networks with conditional access from Widevine and set-top boxes from Amino Communications (AIM:AMO).

Visiontel Latin American DTH begins trials
Aug 3, 2009 – A new 70 channel DVB-S2 DTH service called Visiontel has begun test broadcasting in Latin America. The official launch is expected some time before the end of 2009.

Telefónica España resumed IPTV subscriber growth in 2Q09
Jul 30, 2009 – Telefónica (Madrid and NYSE: TEF) has released its second quarter 2009 results. Pay TV accesses worldwide reached 2.4 million at the end of June, almost 19.4% more than a year ago. Performance improved in Spain with net adds of 4,715 in the quarter.

Mobile TV Device Volumes Will Not Decline in 2009
Jul 23, 2009 – TeleAnalytics has calculated that the end-2009 Mobile TV user count will be in the 80.8 million to 81.9 million range. Mobile TV device sales will at worst remain flat, but an increase of up to 2% may be witnessed with respect to the 2008 sales total.

Brazil ISDB set-top box sales still slow
Jul 21, 2009 – According to Brazil's Minister of Communications, digital TV set top boxes are still selling slowly. It has been estimated that only 250,000 units have been sold since the introduction of the ISDB service at the end of 2007.
