HISPASAT and Orbital Sign Contract for the Construction of Two New Amazonas Satellites
Jun 25, 2012 – Group HISPASAT and Orbital Sciences (NYSE:ORB) have signed a contract for the construction of two new satellites. Amazonas 4A and 4B will allow HISPASAT to meet the growing demand for satellite capacity, mainly for satellite television, in Latin America.

Google TV from Sony Launches Outside the U.S.
Jun 25, 2012 – Sony (Tokyo:6758; NYSE:SNE) has announced the availability and pricing of the NSZ-GS7, Internet Player with Google TV. Powered by the Google TV platform, the Internet Player will be available to buy in UK stores from week commencing July 16.

DTH leads the digital boom in Latin America
Jun 20, 2012 – Most Latin American territories are experiencing a surge in digital TV take-up, according to a new report from Digital TV Research. The report forecasts that 103 million homes will have digital TV in 2017, up from 40 million at end-2011.

Colombia launches DVB-T2 network with Rohde & Schwarz transmitters
May 31, 2012 – Colombia will be the first country in Latin America to go on the air with a DVB-T2 TV network. The network will use transmitters from Rohde & Schwarz. The CNTV regulatory authority decided at the end of last year to switch to the new standard.

Global TV Replacement Cycle Falls Below 7 Years

Satellite TV subscribers up 26.9% Y-o-Y in Mexico in 1Q 2012
May 28, 2012 – According to Mexico's Telecommunications Sector Production Index, at the end of the first quarter of 2012 there were 5.982 million DTH users in the country, an increase of 26.9% versus Q1 2011. Cable TV grew 4.2% to 5.645 million subscribers.

DIRECTV Announces First Quarter 2012 Results
May 8, 2012 – DIRECTV (NASDAQ:DTV) has reported first quarter 2012 results. DIRECTV Latin America set an all-time record for gross and net additions with 1.0 million and 593,000 respectively in the quarter. DIRECTV U.S. added 81,000 new subscribers in the quarter.

Chile's Pay TV subscribers passed 2 million mark in 2011
May 7, 2012 – Chile's Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones (Subtel) has releases pay TV statistics for 2011. During the year satellite subscribers increased from 853,000 to 930,000 whereas wired (cable TV and IPTV) subscribers grew from 1.076 million to 1.138 million.
