TiVo subscriptions down 139k in quarter to end-April '09
May 27, 2009 – TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO) has reported financial results for the first quarter ended April 30, 2009. TiVo-Owned subscription gross additions for the first quarter were approximately 37,000, compared to 48,000 gross additions for the year-ago period.

DTHi pre-pay satellite TV launches in Brazil
May 27, 2009 – A pre-pay satellite TV service, DTHi, has been launched in Brazil. DTHi hopes to replace existing receivers with a set-top box capable of receiving 16 pay TV channels on top of the 40 free-to-air channels already available.

Globo and Thomson to develop rural digital TV for Brazil
May 18, 2009 – Brazil's Globo is planning a rural digital TV system, called TVDR, to replace the 15 million satellite dishes that currently receive analogue free-to-air signals in the country. The system will use set-top boxes from Thomson (Paris:18453; NYSE: TMS).

Ecuador to also test ISDB-TB and DTMB

Telefónica pay TV accesses exceed 2.3 million
May 13, 2009 – Telefónica (Madrid and NYSE: TEF) has released its first quarter 2009 results. Pay TV accesses exceeded 2.3 million by the end of March, almost 25% more than a year ago. However, subscriber numbers in Spain fell by 7,700 in the quarter.

Panama adopts DVB-T for DTT
